Best Jigsaw for Coping

Best Jigsaw for Coping

Would you like to double or even triple your productivity in the workshop or job site? If so, you've come to the right place. Find review for the best jigsaw for Coping.

If you've ever indulged in woodworking, you understand how daunting it can be to cut curves manually. But wait! There's a solution to this huge problem: a jigsaw! I have compiled a short list of the best jigsaws for coping to help you decide which one best suits your needs.

A jigsaw's purpose is to make straight, curved, and other complex cuts on different materials. Manually cutting irregular shapes on your workpiece can be chaotic and cumbersome, which is why woodworkers go for a coping jigsaw.

Additionally, you can cut holes and shapes by fast drilling and then utilizing a jigsaw. Again, jigsaws can be adjusted to different angles thanks to their versatility.

In summary, jigsaws are the least appreciated and most underrated workshop power tools. I hope to help you better appreciate them with this write-up, where I review the best jigsaw for coping and explain why you should buy it.

Let's get started!

Hitachi CJ18DGLP4 Jigsaw

Best Jigsaw for Coping- Hitachi CJ18DGLP4 Jigsaw

The Hitachi CJ18DGLP4 jigsaw was made to impress!

It is a cordless power tool and retails at an affordable price. My first impression of this model was nothing short of impressive. This is due to its sleek construction, durable shoe and nose, and balanced weight.

The handle is positioned at the top, so I used the tool perpendicular to the workpiece. Without the battery, it weighs 4lbs, making it lightweight enough to operate for extended hours.

However, I feel like it's important to point out that the Hitachi CJ18DGLP4 is not a heavy-duty power tool. For instance, it offers 2400 SPM. Nevertheless, this speed is ideal for home use and light tasks at the workshop. Besides, it is durable, ergonomic, and lightweight for ultimate convenience.

Considering all these features, my review has established a viable argument as to why this is the most suitable jigsaw for coping.

Still not convinced? There's more!

Key features

Comfy & Ergonomic handle

As a DIY woodworker, I don't spend much time in my workshop, but I don't underestimate the convenience of a power tool with a firm grip. When I began using the CJ18DGLP4 jigsaw, I had a wonderful time, thanks to the ergonomic handle sitting atop it.

This means that if you're a beginner woodworker, you won't have a hard time handling it. Plus, it is designed for you to hold it properly, and you'll work for a long time without causing fatigue to your arm and wrist.

Easy to use & lightweight

As pointed out, the Hitachi CJ18DGLP4 isn’t a heavy-duty power tool. It gives an SPM of 2400, sufficient for home and light workshop tasks. That said, it is durable and ergonomic with a lightweight build. Again, it's equipped with a sturdy motor that doesn't call for much maintenance.

What's more, the on/off button is situated close to the handle for maximum convenience. Also, it has an LED light for maximum visibility when working in dimly lit surroundings. The on-tool storage for placing your blades provides convenience and can hold up to 6 blades.

At 4 lbs., the Hitachi CJ18DGLP4 jigsaw is among the lightweight power tools, making it ideal for use for a long time without getting tired.

Bevel Cutting

In addition to the power delivered by this impressive jigsaw, it offers four bevel-angle cutting options, which you can adjust or switch as needed. Also, the handle is useful for making those cuts comfortably and accurately.

Considering coping involves carving different shapes on different materials, the four bevel angle options are exactly what you need! On top of that, the robust base plate takes care of accuracy and stability.

Accessories

The Hitachi CJ18DGLP4 jigsaw is the only thing included in the package; hence you'll have to purchase the charger and battery separately.

Cost and Comparison

The Hitachi CJ18DGLP4 jigsaw goes for $53 to $60, depending on where you purchase it. Also, this doesn't include a charger and battery. Compared to the DeWalt DCS331B, which goes for $209, and Porter PCC650B retails at $65, it is a more affordable option.

Worthy Competitors

DeWalt DCS331B

DeWalt DCS331B

The DeWalt DCS331B is a potent cordless jigsaw with everything you need to start working. It has an LED light that indicates the battery level, while the 4 orbital settings let it move the same way a hand saw would.

Its powerful motor has variable speeds, which deliver up to 3000 SPM, which is more than what Hitachi offers. Also, its practical design lets you shift the speed via the conveniently placed trigger.

The tool-less blade shifting system eases the process of blade changing while guaranteeing precision and accuracy. Again, the metallic shoe delivers a maximum capacity of 450 with markings on 45, 30, 15, and 0 degrees.

While it does have a reliable grip, nothing beats the Hitachi's soft and ergonomic handle.

PORTER CABLE PCC650B

PORTER CABLE PCC650B

The PORTER-CABLE PCC650B jigsaw is a worthy competitor with its 20V lithium battery and 2500 SPM, making it perfect for beginner woodworkers. Besides, it is lightweight. The variable speed feature lets you change the speed according to your projects` needs.

It also comes with three orbital settings, like the Hitachi, which are sufficient for making smooth and accurate coping joints. However, unlike the Hitachi, it has a built-in dust blower, like the DeWalt DCS331B, for clearing the workspace of dust and debris. Besides, the tool-free blade mode makes switching blades easier.

Why Buy the Hitachi CJ18DGLP4 jigsaw

This cordless jigsaw is a great light-duty power tool and an excellent deal if you own 18V Hitachi batteries. At 4.5 stars, it is rated higher than most top-of-the-line jigsaws. And while most users don’t find the power sufficient, they should understand that this is a light-duty jigsaw.

Another reason you should purchase this model is its lifetime warranty, which is more than what most expensive and advanced tools offer. What's more, the Hitachi CJ18DGLP4 offers great value, is sturdy, performs equally, and in some instances, better than most tools within its price range.

The minor shortcomings of the Hitachi are compensated by its features which are worth every penny. Additionally, it's known for its ergonomic and soft handle and capability in coping.

Considering its price point, it offers excellent returns on investment.
